First Half
Having lost their first encounter by a three-goal margin to Algeria, Uganda sought redemption with a 3-0 win over Guinea.
SC Villa forward Reagan Mpande headed in on goal from close range after a chip pass from KCCA midfielder Joel Sserunjogi in the 31st minute.
Sserunjogi’s pass came as a result of a clever set piece from Skipper Allan Okello.
Mounting into this goal, Uganda had ambitiously approached the first half playing predominantly in Guinea’s half.
Players, including Allan Okello and Reagan Mpande, had come close to making their counts. However, their efforts were either saved or went wide.
However, Uganda could have doubled its lead towards the end of the first half after Allan Okello’s colorful run resulted in a misplaced shot.
Second half
Uganda continued with their pressing in the second half, playing largely in Guinea’s half.
With this dominance, Ugandan skipper Allan Okello got fouled in his attempt to penetrate past the Guinean defense.
After a VAR review showing contact on Okello, a penalty was awarded by the Libyan referee.
Okello converted from the spot to give Uganda a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute.
On the other hand, Guinea tried to redeem itself, making several attempts on goal against Uganda.
Guinea got themselves awarded a penalty after left-back Herbert Achayi’s alleged foul.
However, Guinea’s penalty got cancelled after VAR review showed no contact.
Uganda, on the other hand, sealed off its emphatic victory over Guinea with a third goal in the 89th minute.
KCCA F.C. forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe struck from close range after a clear pass from Vipers midfielder Karim Watambala.
Ahimbisibwe, who came as a substitute late in the second half, made his debut in the competition with a goal.
Ahead of this fixture, Coach Morley Byekwaso made four changes, including Herbert Achayi in the left-back position, Reagan Mpande in the left-wing, Watambala in the midfield, and Mukundane in central defense.
Uganda, now with three points, will aim to get maximum results against Niger on Monday, 11th, before they meet South Africa on the 18th.
